I am so disappointed with myself.
Tonight, we participated in the Link, a monthly agility event where participants run the same course for the month at different venues around New Zealand. In order to have your results registered at the Link, you need to become a member of the group. As we were not members yet, we participated in the event just for a try out.
Our performance was deadly awful tonight. After Cinnamon failed to do the Weave correctly and I made her do it again from the beginning, she lost concentration and behaved badly. Although she had to lie down on a table, she refused to do so. And, at a tunnel, she hung around in the tunnel however hard I called. When I looked from one side, she moved to the other side.
It seems I was getting carried away after getting our first Clear Round Certificate. Tonight I was reminded that we are still beginners and we need to practise much harder.
Sob, sob, sob...
Aw, I hate rough training days. :(
ReplyDeleteBut I'm sure you'll be back on track real soon!
Never mind. Practice makes perfect. Just have fun with the beagles.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry things went bad. Just remember you can't blame yourself or dwell on this. Just chalk it up to a bad day and move on. I've had days like this with Jackal and the more I thought about how bad we did and all the things I did wrong the worse our training together got. So consider it experience, learn from it and keep things fun. It will get easier, just stick with it. And know we are rooting for you!
ReplyDeleteJust an off day -- everybody has them! Keep training and don't get discouraged!
ReplyDeleteOh don't be silly! It's not all your fault - you mustn't be so hard on yourself! I know they say that there are no bad dogs, only bad handlers - but I don't always believe that...sometimes we do our best and it IS our dogs who are being naughty!! You can't always blame the human! So don't berate yourself too much.
ReplyDeleteI always think the problem with doing any dog sport - especially competitively - is that you need BOTH partners in your team to pull through for a good performance and unfortunately, you can't always rely on your canine partner! Hee! hee! It's like if you're training for the Olympics, you just have to worry about yourself and making sure your own training and practice is enough - but with a dog sport, there is always the unknown quantity of your dog and whether they will do well and meet your partnership...(sigh) - I guess that is part of the challenge!
But that is what makes it all so worthwhile and rewarding when things do go right - because then you'll know that you really have a great achievement! :-)
All of us have bad days (I have been having several with Honey!) where we seem to take 5 steps backwards after making such good progress and I know exactly how disappointing and disheartening that can be - especially when you have made a huge effort. But try not to let it get to you (I know, easier said than done!) - just dust yourself off, get up and try again - that is the mark of a real winner! :-)

hope you are feeling better already... and stronger!
ReplyDeleteJust think of it as a practice--now you know the things that can go wrong and maybe plan ways to get around it or past it. It's all okay. It should be fun not distressing.
ReplyDeletelove & wags,
River, who never listens
Hey.....don't lose heart, keep up the good work....you are ambassadors for Beagles everywhere, and everyone has off days!
ReplyDeleteWe're missing everyone so today we're doing some visiting, hi!
Slobbers xx
Yuh, and don't forget that you are doing agilities to HAVE FUN! Not to win medals. Right?
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,
Mango
DOn't be hard on yourself! No one is every perfect - that's what keeps things interesting!
ReplyDeletePst... even the world champions dogs and handlers have bad days. I have seen a lot of them in competions.
ReplyDeleteJust keep you tale up what ever happends.
