Latest episode (Cookie)

Thanks for all your concern and encouragement about Cinnamon's recent injury! This morning we took Cinnamon to a vet, but we couldn't find out the cause of lameness in her right hind leg. The vet checked if the patella would luxate when the joint was pulled or pushed, but it didn't. So, at this stage luxating patella is likely to be ruled out. Now the vet suspects that there is something wrong in her left hip. Tomorrow Cinnamon is going to have X-rays on her legs and hips.

But, yesterday something more upsetting happened!!

When I was working on my computer, I noticed nasty smells, something like urine. So, I left my desk to see what it was. What do you think it was? What I saw was Cookie lying on the kitchen floor with poo sitting by his anus, and the next moment I realised that he was actually lying in a paddle of urine, and he was bubbling at the mouth. I called his name, but he didn't move.

I was so upset that I rang the Animal Emergency Centre immediately (As it was Sunday, we couldn't go to our usual vet) and took him there. But, by the time we arrived at the clinic, Cookie had become much more alert. The vet who saw Cookie couldn't find any significant problem with him apart from his wobbly walking.

  1. My goodness you are having terrible things happen! So glad to hear it isn't the patella! Maybe it's arthritis. You can give fish oil and anti-inflammatories for that. Wow! That was terrible for Cookie. Did she eat something that would cause that? We're glad to hear that she is better. We hope things get better for you! We are sending good thoughts and hugs from here.

  5. Sounds like you're having a really rotten time lately just like me. Poor Cookie. Did they say he'd had a seizure? It isn't uncommon for them to not be able to find a reason. The vet I worked for would only put them on anti-seizure medicine if they were having them weekly.

I'm glad Cinnamon doesn't have a luxating patella. That's a huge relief. If it's arthritis that isn't as expensive or difficult to treat.

Please keep us updated. We're thinking of you.

  7. Dear Cookie and Cinnamon,
It makes me sad that you two are having such bad luck :o(
I am glad that Cinnamon doesn't have a luxating patella. I hope the x-rays find the problem, and that it is not a serious problem.
Cookie, I hope you are feeling better? I am very worried about you. Are the vets going to do any tests to find out what went wrong?

  10. Oh noes - this is horrible! Hopefully everything is OK. This happened to both of us because we ate something we shouldn't have. It was very scary for our parents, but we are OK now.
