These are some of the photos taken today.

Cookie has lost some weight, since we changed his diet to raw food (K9 Natural Frozen Free Flow) two months ago. When we first noticed the loss of weight a month ago, we increased the amount of food from 120g a day to 130g a day. But, his weight still kept declining, so we again increased the amount. Now he has 75g twice a day.

Hi Cookie & Cinnamon,
ReplyDeleteAw...what great photos from your home photoshoot! I think my favourite is the 3rd one.
That's interesting to hear that you eat K9 Naturals...I don't usually eat this because my humans prefer to give me the more "natural, original" raw diet where I chew on whole pieces of raw, meaty bones of different types - this means that I get to clean my teeth at every meal. They then add vegetables and other things to my meals. (if you go to the "Raw Diet" page on my website, you will see more about my raw diet)
But you are right, it is not very convenient to take away bloody, raw meaty bones when you are travelling! So my humans asked Animalia Pet Store in Newmarket and they suggested the K9 Naturals Freeze Dried. It looked very strange and it was a bit complicated to work out how much to feed, because you have to add water to "reconstitute" it (the instructions on the packet are a bit confusing!) - but it smelled very good and I ate it all very quickly! The only thing is it is VERY expensive! I have to eat about 1% of my body weight which is about 650g a day (for Cookie coz he is a smaller dog - he would probably have to eat 2-3% of his body weight daily) - and each bag only gives 2 meals for me - so those 2 bags that my humans got only gave me 4 meals. Each bag was about $20 - so each meal I had cost about $10!! And $20 a day to feed me! This is crazily expensive - my normal raw diet costs about $5 a day to feed me.
So I think these kinds of commercial raw foods are good for small dogs but not very economical for me! They did say I could eat the big bag of K9 Naturals Salmon and Venison which is specially for big dogs and so it is available in bigger bags and is a bit cheaper - but my humans didn't want me to just eat salmon and venison all the time - and to pay more for that! - so they decided they preferred to give me mainly raw meaty bones from another raw food company called "Raw Essentials" - then I can have a range of different types of meat, like chicken, lamb, rabbit, possum, ostrich and fresh whole fish once a week! If you are interested, take a look on the website: www.rawessentials.co.nz (you can also get it from Animalia in Newmarket - they stock lots of different types of raw meaty bones in a freezer)
They also supplement my meals with Mighty Mix Dogfood, which is a high energy dog food for farmdogs and it is made up of a mixture of raw mutton, beef & chicken, green-lipped mussel, eggs, apple cider vinegar, a bit of grain, etc...it is quite good and much cheaper than K9 Naturals. But maybe it is not as high quality ingredients and it does not contain any vegetables or fruit, so my humans add that themselves. But so my diet is mainly the whole pieces of raw meaty bones, with a bit of this Might Mix food - and I am doing pretty well!
If you eat only K9 Naturals, then it is a good idea for your humans to give you some bones to chew on from time to time, otherwise you will not get any benefit of cleaning your teeth. This is very important for our health. You can get cheap bones from your butcher - like lamb brisket or beef marrow bone (cut up into small pieces) - or you can get it from Raw Essentials. If you go to Animalia in Newmarket, they have a big freezer with all these different raw meaty bones inside, packed in plastic bags, ready to go - very convenient. So maybe your human can go there and have a look sometime!
Sorry for this long comment but I thought it was good to let you know this information!
