Obedience Class #2

Hi. It's Cinnamon.

The owl charm I am wearing in the photo is
a present from my Japanese blog friend Mini the Beagle.

I went to my obedience class last night. This time Mint didn't attend his class because his stitches hadn't been removed yet after his neutering operation. So, I trained for the whole hour unlike last week.

Yesterday it was nice to see my instructor who hadn't been there for the first class because of flu. I know I am not a great obedience dog, but in the class the instructor used me as a model dog because she knows me very well, having taught me dancing since last October.

I already knew many of the things we were taught yesterday, because they are also basic moves for dancing, such as the Touching and Following the handler's hand. One of the things I was told to do for the first time was laying down between the handler's legs. My mum was pleased to see me doing it, because I used to be very reluctant to stay under her when I practised Paws trick sitting between Mum's legs.

At the end of the class there was time for off-leash free playing. But, at that time I did something very very bad. As soon as I was let free, I lunged at my classmate Indy. I don't know why I did it, but I just couldn't stop myself! Of course I was caught on the collar immediately and kept on the lead for the rest of the play time while other classmates were all playing happily. Mum looked really sad. I am sorry, Mum...

  1. Something must have stressed you out to cause you to lunge at Indy. Don't worry; Mum handled it the right way and perhaps you'll feel like playing next time.

  2. Sadly, sometimes something just gets in our furry brain and we react in the wrong way. Oh, well, mom handled it well and bet that next time, it will work better.

P.S. - Sometimes our hu-dad makes us sit for a while before being released. Something about focus, focus, blah, blah, blah.

  3. Hey Cinnamon, we're home! I was just catching up on your blog, I hope Mint's feeling ok after having the "big snip". You'll be a star in your obedience classes I'm sure, cause you already know most of the "moves". That's a shame about the wee snap you had at the other dog, you must have been feeling a bit threatened. Maybe we should catch up again so Cinnamon can socialise a bit with Pepper, they seemed to get on well last time!
    Love Em & Pepper.

  4. Hi Cinnamon - sounds like you were the star pupil in class!

Don't worry about the incident with Indy - sometimes us doggis have an 'bad mood day' too - like humans! Besides, I don't think humans can catch all the subtle body language between dogs and so maybe Indy had been giving you dirty looks all through the class but your Mum hadn't noticed! You know, what might look normal and friendly behaviour to humans might actually be threatening to us dogs but they are not at our level to see it! And sometimes, you know, we just meet another dog we doin't like - no reason! Just like humans too! There was a big black poodle in my class at All Breeds that I just HATED on sight the minute I saw him - I was always well-behaved until I was near him and then I would start growling and try to lunge at him. Hsin-Yi would get very upset with me. But generally she just kept me on the other side of the class from him!
