One New Trick A Month - December - Roll up in a beach towel

Hi! It's Cinnamon.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Well, ours was not as exciting as I had hoped, because our humans were so busy with their work that we couldn't enjoy anything like a party, a picnic, or a BBQ. But, Mint managed to learn a new trick in the last few days :-)

Yes, this is the last post for our One New Trick A Month Challenge 2012!

This month Mint learned to 'roll up in a beach towel'. This is a very useful trick. You can do it with a blanket in winter to keep yourself warm.

Enjoy!

Our last competition of the year

Hi! It's Cinnamon.

Last Saturday we went to Cambridge for our last agility & obedience competition of the year.

The venue is one hour and a half away from home and entries were to be taken from 7:15am. So, we got up very early when it was still dark outside and left home before 6am.

Leaving home at dawn

Many people were camping at the site

This time Mint entered Novice, Intermediate, and Jumpers C, and I entered Starters, Novice, and Jumpers C. Detailed report of each run of ours may be boring for some, so here I report the result only for agility.

Having a rest after having two runs each

Mint went clear in all of his three runs, even in his very first Intermediate. Well done, Mint!

Mint was flat out after finishing all his runs

I missed a clear round in Novice, as I entered the weaves from the wrong (left) side. But, yay, I got a 2nd place in Starters (Mini & Micro combined) and WON Jumpers C (Mini & Micro combined)! It was my first win after my very first win in Elementary B at the same venue in the same competition last year!

Me won the Jumpers C!

Well, as I said at the beginning of this post, this event was an agility & obedience competition, and Mint entered Special Beginners. This class consists of five components, on-lead heelwork, off-lead heelwork, recall, sit stay, and down stay. Mint did very well in the first three components that each dog does separately, but he broke his sit stay by standing up and sitting again, which lead to a big point reduction. But, he still managed to get a 2nd place.

Mint got a 2md place in Special Beginners in Obedience

Overall, Mum looked really happy with how we did, which makes us happy too! It was also good that we finished off the year with good results.

Now we will have a long break from training with instructors, but I am sure Mum will do some training at home occasionally. I hope both Mint and I will do even better next year!

Busy busy weekend - Hound Racing Club Xmas coursing and a dog dancing demo for the Labrador Club

Hi! It's Cinnamon.

On Sunday of our busy weekend, we went to Ardmore New Zealand Kennel Club Exhibition Centre to attend two events at the same time!

The coursing of the Hound Racing Club was scheduled to start at 10am. But, when we arrived at 9:30am, the course had already been set up. It seemed everyone had looked forward to the coursing so much!

As the other even we were attending was to start at 10:30am, Mum asked the club president if Mint and I could run in the first race. I got so excited that it was really hard not to bark!!!

After having one race, we quickly moved to the inside of a building where we were going to do a demonstration of dog dancing for the Labrador Club.

As you may know, I am a little reactive to other dogs. So, Mum was very worried that I might bark at the audience of the demo. But, as I always say, she always worries too much!

Five dogs, including Mint and me, performed their dance routines in front of many Labrador Retrievers and their owners.

Everyone did very well and were well received by the audience. In the audience there were dogs and their owners who trained in a CGC preparation class with me two and a half years ago. As they knew how naughty and reactive I had used to be, they were very impressed with my improvement.

After the dog dancing demonstration, we went back to the Hound Racing Club and had another two races.

It was a really busy weekend, but we had so much fun!!

Busy busy weekend! - Auckland Beagle Club Fun Day on Saturday

Hi!! It's Cinnamon.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a very busy but super cool weekend.

On Saturday we went to the Auckland Beagle Club's Xmas Fun Day in Cornwall Park. Although there was also a walk before the fun event with lots of yummies (mainly for humans) and games (for both humans and dogs), we couldn't join it as Mum was unable to get ready early enough.

When we arrived at the park, only a few dogs were there, as most of the members were having a walk to the summit of One Tree Hill at that time. But, shortly after we arrived, this little one came to say hello to us.

His name is Luke. He is so adorable and friendly!

Like most puppies, Luke didn't seem to understand the concept of "consideration", though.

But, because I was being nice to Luke, a human rewarded me with lots of tummy rubs!

Although we couldn't run around with other Beagles as the venue was not an off-leash dog park, we enjoyed mingling with each other.

After people and dogs came back from the walk, we did some games, such as biscuit hunt, seven legs race, potato and spoon race, and bag race. In the biscuit hunt, we collected three biscuits but three was not enough to win the game, as the winner found nine biscuits!

After all the games finished, humans had BBQ.

We didn't get any sausage or meat from the BBQ, but Mum gave us the biscuits that we had got in the biscuit hunt, because we were sitting nicely and patiently. The biscuits were in a bone shape and very yummy (Sorry no photos of the biscuits, coz we ate them all ^^;).

As it was so much fun, I am already looking forward to the Fun Day next year!
